What is an Adult Care Home?
An Adult Care Home, is one of the living arrangements available to senior citizens who cannot comfortably live alone. These care homes are licensed private homes that can house anywhere from 3-10 people. Private care homes differ from the larger assisted living facilities or nursing homes in that the ratio of caregivers to residents is less.Their meals are home cooked, nutritious, and are served at the dining room table. Most importantly, someone is there with your loved one 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What are the advantages of a small care home vs. a large care facility?
People grow up in homes not industrial complexes. No matter how the larger facilities advertise they are still large facilities with many employees, auditorium like dinning areas, industrial kitchens producing low cost industrial food.
Small facilities tailor personalized meaningful activities for the specific individual.Small assisted care facilities give greater care than larger facilities and have less staff turnover. If residents are ill in a small care home the infirmary goes to their room and a physician is called for direction and guidance.

How does an adult care facility handle the medical needs of residents?
Adult care facility operators and staff must complete CPR and first-aid training certified by the American Red Cross. Each adult care facility must have procedures for obtaining emergency assistance, such as an ambulance. Adult care facilities are required to keep individual resident records and store them so that information is immediately available in an emergency. This record must contain written information, including the name, address and phone number of anyone who should be notified in an emergency, and the name and number of the resident's doctor. If a resident's health takes a turn for the worse, the adult care facility must make sure that the resident receives proper medical attention or, if necessary, is transferred to a medical facility.
How will a resident adjust to Living in an Adult Care Home?
It is normal to expect an adjustment period for the resident, family and the entire foster home household once a new resident moves into an Adult Care Home.
Adjustments are easier for residents who visit the home and have a say in the decision to live in the home than for those who have the decision made for them. Adjustments are also easier for the resident who continues to have outside contact with family, friends and former co-workers in the community.
